Discover Accessible Walks All Around Regional Victoria
The Walking and Rolling Together in Regional Victoria project continues this year with more accessible walks added to the interactive walking map resource, created by Victoria Walks in partnership with Regional Sport Victoria and Disability Sport and Recreation.
As a ‘Together More Active’ project supported by the Victorian Government, Walking and Rolling Together highlights regional accessible walks suitable for people with disabilities. Each walk has been audited, mapped, and assessed for accessibility, ensuring regional recreational walking routes are enjoyable for everyone.
Regional Sports Assemblies have assisted in this process, with GippSport, Valley Sport, and Sport North East recently co-auditing walks to expand the total list to 70 accessible trails across Victoria.
The Accessible Walks resource was made possible through a free, easy-to-use accessible walk audit tool co-designed with people with disability. Regional walks have been carefully assessed for accessibility, with time, length, and difficulty level all noted for Victorians to consider when planning their next outdoor activity.
“It has been fantastic to work with Regional Sport Victoria to promote the accessible trails that exist across Victoria, from Sale in the east to Warrnambool and Halls Gap in the west,” said Victoria Walks’ Executive Officer Ben Rossiter.
“People with disability now have the information they need to decide whether a particular walk is suitable for them, such as whether a nature trail is connected to car parking they can use.”
